[Gonzalez, Bridge, Engineering Duty Station]
Having been done with the briefing Rick walked out to the bridge. Everyone there was currently engaged to their respective duties. 'Time to be a miracle worker.', Rick thought to himself as he smirked.
He walked up to one of the Engineering duty stations on the bridge and sat down. "Computer, bring up Engineering Control on duty Alpha.", Rick said as the station came to live bringing up the Master System Display (MSD). Currently on display was the ship's current warp speed, the output power from the warp core and a myriad of sub-system power consumption with their current efficiencies.
'The Captain wants us to get to Morgan as quickly as possible. I think I can help slightly.', Rick thought to himself. As a civilian at the ASDB had worked on a project to improve the warp field by slightly misaligning the warp field generators. He had not yet implemented this enhancement yet on the Broadsword and he wouldn't do so now but it gave him the idea to slightly modify the warp field on the fly to increase the ship's speed. He would try just a minor change that he theorized could yield a significant boost. He ran some a quick simulation and his proposed change could potentially yield a 0.3 increase in the warp factor if it worked right.
"Alright, let me play this safely.", Rick said to himself. He brought up the MSD and re-routed some extra power to the Structural Integrity Field and the Inertial Dampers. He also reinforced the shields and the reaction control thrusters. Making large changes to the Warp Field could yield disastrous results should the field begin to oscillate at frequencies near its natural frequency which would de-stabilize it and throw the ship out of warp speed. The structure of the ship would suffer immense stresses which could make it yield and some of the major structures to buckle under the immense stresses.
Rick opened the COMM to Main Engineering. "This is Chief Gonzalez. Damage control teams, begin to assemble and to disperse across the ship using instructions in Gonzalez-Beta-2."
He closed the COMM to the mail floor and then opened a private channel to Jack Langmir. "Jack, this is Rick. I'm going to be putting the drive system through a mandatory stress test after such an overhaul. I won't be going as high as 115 or 120% ouput, I'm only looking to do up to 102% output right now. Have some techs and damage control teams standing by taking readings. I'll need to report the improvements to the ASDB, the Corps of Engineers, and the many different propulsion sytem design groups and fleet yards. After I'm done I'll join you down there."

Rick gradually increased the output of the warp drive to 102% of its nominal output. He knew the core would be pulsing rapidly. He could hear it in his mind even though he was up in the bridge. After reaching the desired power output, he routed the extra power to the systems that would require it the most for this procedure. At which point, Rick cracked his knuckles at his station while he brought up the warp field display. He took manual control of the field and made slight field harmonic adjustments near the warp nacelles. He changed the frequency of the field near the saucer section and changed the energy density near the rear of the ship. There was a slight rumble across the ship, at which point Rick made further adjustments to the the SIF and Inertial Dampers wiping out the noise that came on for a couple of seconds. Rick put the warp field control back into automatic computer control and checked the equivalent warp speed they could achieve with these adjustments: an increase in 0.25 warp factor was achieved which meant the ship could travel just a bit quicker. With the increase in power output from the warp drive he knew he could push the ship to even faster speeds but he was only interested in a passive physics-based way of improving their warp speed efficiency not just dumping more power.
