[McKnight, in his quarters]
The Captain entered his quarters as he finally got a chance to relax. It seemed like a regular mission to find out what happened to a Starfleet research base, but it turned into something that was way out of the ordinary. Zombies. He couldn't believe it. He knew that they probably weren't zombies, but whatever these creatures were, they definitely acted like zombies so he was going to call them that. Who cares what Starfleet will think when he tells them that zombies have infested their research base.
John walked over to his chair and sat down in it as he took a deep breath while he gathered his thoughts together. He had a officer that is currently missing, a bridge that was destroyed, a zombie infested Defiant class starship, and a zombie infested planet. Not to mention, they still haven't had a chance to determine what Starfleet's eureka formula to extend the human life was. If it involved being turned into a zombie, the Captain would rather live a shorter life.
Turning to face his desk, John activated his computer screen and opened a comm channel to Starfleet Command. It took a few seconds, but eventually, the Federation emblem on his monitor was replaced with a young Ensign's face.
=/\="Admiral Mike Yan's office," she said with a big smile, "How can I help you, sir?"=/\=
John envied her go happy attitude, but it was a bit contiguous. He returned her smile and said, =/\="Hello Ensign..."=/\=
He paused so that she could fill in her name.
=/\="Oh, I'm so sorry, sir! Where are my manners? Ensign Hatachi, attache to Admiral Yan. It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain..."=/\= She also paused for John to fill in his name.
=/\="John McKnight. I'm sure the pleasure is all mines. I need to speak with the Admiral about the mission that was assigned to the Perseus. It's very important that I get a hold of him,"=/\= said the Captain. He was thinking about how the Admiral would react to what he had to say.
The Ensign nodded as she typed a few things on her console. Then she said, =/\="One moment, Captain."=/\= She got up and walked away from her desk. John could make out some words in the background, but he wasn't really sure what the conversation was about. Hatachi came back a few seconds later and said, =/\="Sorry about that, sir. I will patch you through now. Have a nice day!"=/\= She waved good bye at him and John waved back.
A moment later, the screen was replaced with the Admiral's face. He smiled at John and said, =/\="Captain. It's so good to see you. I hope things are well for you."=/\=
=/\="Not really, sir," said John as he took a deep breath and let it out, "You know that mission about the medical research facility? Let's just say in Lieutenant Kah'lar's terms, it's totally fubar."=/\=
Mike's expression changed from a happy expression to one of concern. He leaned closer to the monitor. =/\="Captain, you do know that mission was particularly important to the Federation Council, right? I was going to tell you that even the Federation President has taken some interest in it,"=/\= said the Admiral.
=/\="I know," said John, "But zombies, sir. Zombies!"=/\=
=/\="What the heck are you talking about, John?" asked the Admiral, "You better not be joking with me. The Federation President is actually outside my door. I told her I was getting a status update from you."=/\=
'Ugh,' thought John as he also leaned forward and did a face palm gesture. =/\="I'll send you a report on the situation, but I need reinforcements. It turned out that whatever the scientists were working on here, it had some side effects that were unexpected. We were able to overcome the defense system, but we were almost over ran by creatures that looked like dead walking Starfleet officers. I'm not sure what to make of it, but we lost our bridge and some of my best officers. One of my senior staff members is still missing."=/\=
Mike put up a finger and said, =/\="Captain, I will send you some reinforcements. I'll stall with the Federation President for now. Just so you know, John. I know you always want to complete a mission, but tell me honestly, can we complete this mission without losing more people? I don't care what the Federation Council or the Federation President thinks. If this is going to cost us a lot of lives, then it's not worth it and I will tell them that. I don't care if they kick me out of Starfleet."=/\=
John shook his head. =/\="We can finish this, sir. Plus I need to find my missing officer."=/\=
Mike nodded and said, =/\="Keep me informed, John. Reinforcements will arrive soon. Admiral Yan out."=/\=
John leaned back in his chair as he thought about his next steps. He knew he had to send the Admiral a report, but how much details can he put into it. John knew that he needed to phrase it properly so that he could get his reinforcements to find his missing officer. He wasn't going to let Amy down that easily.
