I continue to lurk and monitor from the shadows, but fear that this may be falling far too short of the mark. I still write on another site, but this site has somehow faded. I've traded many emails with Mike about this, explaining what I think it would take to breathe life back into it, but it may simply be too heavy a task. My creativity is still flowing and I still love writing, but that is not enough. On the other site, in some down time between missions, another writer and I created two bursts of writing where we wrote more than 65,000 words in under 4 weeks. Here, we are unable to combine 600 words in 6 months.
The site needs a new look: without a facelift in some way that might be more engaging to the young crowd, you're not going to grab their attention and keep it. Marketing needs to be applied here and it would ultimately require an investment of lots of time and maybe even some money. It would be consuming for at least one or two people for a year or more and a pan for the future that gives security and allows growth with an inspired membership.
The site needs a core: we're basically starting from scratch. No matter what the site once was, it now needs CPR on a level that performs a miracle. That means a hard core group of core writers, able to post on a daily basis, creating material that would make you eager to even read daily, not to mention perhaps inspire someone to join in the fun. If you can't grab someone and impress them to that degree, then there is no point. That core needs to be at east a handful of people who can dedicate that kind of time and effort, or it will fail. Note that I said DAILY, and not WEEKLY. Come big or stay home.
Like one of my favorite sayings goes, "Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail." If anyone has any other questions on this or wants me to fill in details, please drop me a line. I'm always happy to talk. Right now, I'll keep monitoring the site here, but am not holding my breath.
