"Mr. President," said one of the people assembled at the conference table. Before he said another word, John cut him off and said, "Stop calling me that. I didn't survive weeks of fighting in a station full of Borg drones to only come back to this," said John, "Plus the President is still alive and I'm hoping she'll wake up soon. Then I can give her a hard time for convincing me in the first place to act as her VP."
"Understood, but till she does, you're the person running the show and we need some guidance," he said. John sighed and knew that the person was right. He should have heeded the advice of a famous starship Captain that once said, 'Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship.'
"Alright, what's the latest regarding us getting back to Earth and getting the Federation back up and running," asked John.
"There's a few Borg Cubes just outside the Sol System. We still don't have communication with Earth. The Levin reports that the number of drones actually on Earth is limited. The people there are fighting back where they can and are setting up a resistance, but they need support. Starfleet, what's left of Starfleet, believes that the Borg are stretched thin with their attacks. If there's a time to mount an attack, now's the time to do it," said one of the newly elected councilmembers.
"We don't have enough ships to take on Borg Cubes. We could lose everything," said another person.
"We can't just sit here and not do anything," another person said.
"Let's put it to a vote," said another person and half of the room raised their hands in favor of mounting an attack and the other half weren't.
'Politics,' thought John as he rolled his eyes. "Let's take a small break and reconvene. I need to find out some information," said McKnight as he got up and left the room.
